About Our Homes | Typical Construction Stages Breaking Ground

Like all great projects an organized plan must be in place to achieve both success and satisfaction. Our typical construction stages are:

Construction Stage #1:

  • Preliminary staking of lot and driveway
  • Site survey complete
  • Silt fence installed
  • Lot clearing (if necessary)
  • Application for all permits
  • Septic and well engineering completed (if necessary)
  • Electrical meter staked and service applied for
  • Home Owner Association approval process begins (if necessary)
  • Exterior selections signed and returned

Construction Stage #2:

  • Dumpster and toilet delivered
  • Culvert installed (if required) and construction entrance completed
  • All subcontractors made aware of parking restrictions on jobsite
  • Hay bales installed on ends of culvert pipe (if required)
  • Re-stake house with offsets
  • Order windows

Construction Stage #3 - Foundation:

  • Excavation
  • Footings
  • Foundation walls
  • Waterproofing
  • Sump pump installed (if applicable)
  • Termite treatment
  • Backfill and rough grade
  • Crawl space - slurry poured, gravel with pit
  • Steel ordered
  • Garage and exterior doors ordered
  • Temporary electric installed
  • Pour garage floor and porches; then protect
  • County inspection

Construction Stage #4 - Framing:

  • Steel set
  • 1st floor - floor joists installed
  • 1st floor - sub flooring installed
  • 1st floor - exterior and interior walls framed
  • 2nd floor - floor joists installed
  • 2nd floor - sub flooring installed
  • 2nd floor - exterior and interior walls framed
  • Roof framing installed
  • All exterior sheathing installed
  • Installation of temporary interior rails
  • Installation of stairs
  • House wrap installed

Meeting #4:

In this meeting, Echelon and the customer will complete all kitchen and any built in design issues. All appliances will be ordered to insure punctual delivery. The interior selections will be completed and ordered. Echelon will distribute to all subcontractors the customer’s selections.

Construction Stage #5:

  • Shingles on roof
  • All windows and exterior doors installed and keyed the same
  • Soffit and fascia completed
  • Siding and trim completed
  • Columns installed
  • All exterior railings and porch ceilings installed

Construction Stage #6 - Mechanical:

  • Rough-in for all plumbing
  • Rough-in for HVAC
  • Rough-in for electric and cable
  • Wiring for audio, security, fire alarm and Smart Home technology
  • County inspection on rough-in
  • All utility services to house
  • Septic and well system installed
  • Exterior painting completed

Meeting #5:

Echelon and customer to have an electrical walk through. Provide customer with a lighting schedule. The schedule lists the types and quantities of fixtures required.

Construction Stage #7:

  • Insulation installed
  • All fire stop installed
  • County inspection on the close in of the house
  • Installation of masonry fireplace and steps
  • Gutters and downspouts installed

Construction Stage #8 - Interior:

  • Drywall hung, taped, sanded, and primed
  • Interior trim package installed
  • 1st coat of final paint applied
  • Final installation of all steps and rails
  • Installation of underlayment, tile, hardwood, vinyl
  • Kitchen cabinets and hardware installed
  • Vanities installed
  • Electric receptacles and switches installed
  • All countertops installed
  • Shower doors measured and ordered
  • All built-ins installed
  • Free standing tubs and pedestal sinks installed

Construction Stage #9:

  • A/C units and furnace installed
  • 2nd and final coat of paint applied
  • All interior and exterior fixtures installed
  • Plumbing fixtures installed
  • Appliances installed
  • All closets, mirrors, shower doors and accessories installed
  • Screens for porches installed
  • Water and electric meters installed
  • Hardwood flooring finished and protected
  • Irrigation installed
  • Final grading established and seed planted or sod installed
  • As-built survey completed
  • Final plumbing and electrical inspections
  • Hot water heater checked and ducts balanced
  • Carpet installed
  • Window hardware, grills and screens installed
  • Final Cleaning
  • Vacuum all vents and change filters
  • Power wash garage floor
  • Remove all debris from crawl space, attic and yard
  • Dumpster and outside toilet removed
  • Installation of mailbox and house numbers
  • Lien Release completed
  • County inspection - Certificate of Occupancy

Meeting #6:

During this final meeting, the home warranty inspection walk through will take place. All home warranty information is given to the customer. A ninety (90) day and an eleven (11) month customer service request will be performed by Echelon Custom Homes to insure the quality of the customer’s home living.
